If you were CEO of Facebook, how much salary would you expect to draw every year? Surely you would have  thought of a great salary to offset their responsibilities and the importance of managing a company of this size, Isn’t it ? But the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg thinks differently.
Mark Zuckerberg who is the CEO and founder of Facebook, one of the most futuristic companies, draws a meager salary of $1 per year. Mark Zuckerberg announced in 2013 that he will be drawing $1 every year and will be giving up his salary. Not only that, Mark Zuckerberg also refuses to accept any bonus or any type of equity awards.

You need to know about the History of $1 Salary

During the period of World War 1, World War 2 and Korean war, the US economy was sinking. At that time, many businessmen and government executives came forward to help the government mobilise and run the American industries.
According to the U.S law accepting the services of unpaid volunteers were not acceptable. Therefore, the concept of $1 salary was introduced where they paid a nominal salary, and the salary establishes their legal relationship as employees of the government.
You might be thinking why Mark Zuckerberg Joined the $1 salary club? Here is what he had said during a Q&A session on Facebook:
“I’ve made enough money. At this point, I’m just focused on making sure I do the most possible good with what I have. The main way I can help is through Facebook – giving people the power to share and connecting the world. I’m also focusing on my education and health philanthropy work outside of Facebook as well. Too many people die unnecessarily and don’t get the opportunities they deserve. There are lots of things in the world that need to get fixed and I’m just lucky to have the chance to work on fixing some of them.”
On September 22, 2010, it was reported that Zuckerberg had donated $100 million to Newark Public Schools, the public school system of Newark, New Jersey. This clears one thing that Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t shy away from making charitable donations.
Despite having $1 per year salary he is still a billionaire because Mark Zuckerberg holds a share of worth $54.1 billion on Facebook.
