Firefox 48 Finally Arrives: Brings Multi-Process Feature to Reduce Lag and Crashes

Mozilla Finally announced the biggest change in its history by releasing Firefox 48 for a desktop. Firefox 48 is the most awaited electrolysis architecture which prevents the web browser from frequent crashing.
After taking a few weeks in beta, Firefox 48 is now available for download in its final version. It took about seven years for Mozilla team for developing the Electrolysis architecture in order to compete with Google Chrome.
The reason why Mozilla team took so long to complete the project is because of Mozilla’s very own traditional extension architecture which doesn’t support multi-process technology since birth. Therefore, it became really hard to enable multi-process in Firefox 48, Mozilla team had to create a whole new extension system.
However, not all the users will be able to use Electrolysis from the day it was launched. Only some users will be getting the new Firefox 48 and will have Electrolysis turned on by default. According to the sources only one percent of users who install the new Firefox 48 will be able to use the new multi-process architecture.
Mozilla said, “After that initial period if all looks well, we’ll ramp up to 100% of those users, which will be about half of all Firefox 48 users.”
For users who have downloaded the latest Firefox 48 browser can check whether they are into the Electrolysis group or not by just typing “about:support” in the address bar and then they have to look for “1/1(Enabled by default) in the Multi-process windows line.
The new version of Firefox will be running Mozilla’s homegrown Rust programming language. Rust is a general-purpose, multi-paradigm, compiled programming language, it is designed to be a “safe, concurrent, practical language”, supporting functional, imperative-procedural, and object-oriented styles. Rust is also known to give the same level of performance as C++.
For those users who want to download the new Firefox 48 on Windows, Mac, Android, Linux can visit the download page of Mozilla firefox.
